I have my own personal reasons for including a zebra in this piece. There’s a saying in the medical community: “When you hear hoof beats, think horses not zebras.” Meaning, most problems can be explained by the most obvious or likely of reasons. However, for those individuals with rare diseases, they are not the norm. They are the exceptions. They are zebras. My own nephew has a rare disorder, so I made this to honor him and all those other beautiful zebras out there struggling with rare diseases.
